STRENGTHEN YOUR ARGUMENT
Time teaches us that we cannot do the things physically that we did when we were younger but it also teaches us that many things emotionally and mentally, we might do better. This is not necessarily so, but should be. Maturity is not a matter of time but of growth and wisdom.
There is a tendency when young to rely only on a strong body and a loud voice. This is when power is basically perceived as a physical ability to overwhelm. From the time we are children in the playground, we know the louder our voice the more we may get our way and when loud doesn’t work we often turn to force. These tendencies can follow us all through life if we don’t find a better way.
There is a saying, ‘don’t raise your voice; strengthen your argument.’ This is a wise statement and I know it is true. When we hear loud voices from politicians, poets, prophets, preachers, parents or ourselves; we simply know we need to strengthen our arguments, if we even have one to begin with. Loud voice—lousy argument.
It is like I recently saw on a sweatshirt: “I’m not arguing …I am just explaining why I’m right.”
“Do not worry what you are to say…. for it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.” Jesus
