STEPPING IN
One of things I am learning about contemplation is after a time(s) of solitude, silence, waiting and prayer is to step into what I am concentrating on. Often times a part of contemplating is to spend some time with scripture (usually only a verse to a few verses for me) and then to soak and marinate in those until I feel I have some clarity or hear something.
Now comes the part that has become essential for me, and that is to Step into the Story. For a long time I have tried to ‘become part of the story’ and it is a similar practice but it seems like stepping in is even more intentional.
To Step Into the story is ask questions to myself about each person, event and place in the story. By that I mean I try to become the rich young ruler, the accused Pharisee, Nathan to David, David to Nathan, the woman at the well or the denying Peter. By so doing, the questions and answers truly reveal the heart. I read what they said and say the same, what they answer and I answer looking at what is similar and what isn’t.
Stepping In or stepping out.
