SOUL PROSPERING I
John, an apostle, wrote in 3 John:
“The elder to the beloved Gaius, whom I love in truth.
Beloved, I pray that in all respects you may prosper and be in good health, just as your soul prospers. For I was very glad when brethren came and testified to your truth, that is, how you are walking in truth. I have no greater joy than this, to hear of my children walking in the truth.” (vs.1-4)
It appears from this letter that one main ingredient in health and soul prospering is truth. Four times in these verses John mentions how pleased he was that Gaius and others are ‘in truth’ and ‘walking in truth.’ As this short letter continues, John mentions truth three more times, once in verse 8 and twice in verse 12.
The verse that pierces me the most deeply is: “I have no greater joy than this, to hear of my children walking in the truth.” (1:4) Neither do I.
(Note: In 2 John, the first four verses, John mentions truth five times. It is an issue of great importance.)
“But the one who practices the truth comes to the Light, so that his deeds will be revealed as having been performed in God.” Jesus
