SELLING OUT
Recently in the night I heard this:
“I suppose I didn’t ‘sell everything to buy the field’ or maybe I kept back a few pearls… just in case…” (Matthew 13:44-46)
This rather startled me when I was awake and re-thinking what I heard. After reading this again I noticed the man was so happy about the treasure he found in the field, “he sold all he had to buy the field.” (v. 44) The same with the pearl merchant, “finding one pearl of great value he sold all he had to buy it.” (v.46)
Both parables are to instruct us “what the Kingdom is like” as are all seven parables in Mathew 13. The point being, it is worth Selling Out everything to have it. We could get into guilt and shame quickly on these thoughts if not careful. Who has really ever sold it all out for Kingdom? That gets us partway out. But the fact remains that Jesus is teaching that it should be reasonable and essential thinking to want and invest our all for the sake of his Kingdom.
‘Just in case’ is not sold out but a hold out and maybe a cop out. Please convert my whole heart, Lord. Help me sell off some more fields and pearls.
“The Kingdom of Heaven is like a merchant on the lookout for choice pearls. When he discovered a pearl of great value, he sold everything he owned and bought it!” Jesus
