NOT ABOVE, BUT LIKE
The role of a disciple (or student, apprentice) is to carefully and fully give oneself to the teaching and example of a teacher (or Master, guide).
Jesus said, “A pupil is not above his teacher, but everyone, after he has been fully trained, will be like his teacher” (Luke 6:40). It should not surprise or frighten us that we become like Jesus. We become like whatever we are constantly around. We are consistently more like the Teacher as we go through class after class and scripture after scripture and action after action. This is normal discipleship.
