NIGHTHAWK’S PARTY #2
(Nighthawk’s retirement party is taken from ‘Sullivan Sparrow and The Safe Tree’ stories. See yesterday’s Journal entry for part one.)
Nighthawk thanks everyone for the party and says, “What an honor to be here on the Limb of Mercy today with all my friends. It has been my privilege to serve the Forest as Night Watchman. Thanks for your gifts. I want you to know the Forest will still be watched at night. I would like to introduce Nighthawk Jr. and Nighthawk Sister. They are both trained to be the next watchers of the Forest.”
Nighthawk Jr. and Nighthawk Sister stood to be recognized. Jr. says, “I will follow in my father’s wings to fly the night Forest without fear and in all kinds of weather.”
Nighthawk Sister says, I too will follow in my brave father’s wings in watching the Forest as the next generation of night watchers. Wait; there is one more thing. Just so my father and mother know, and the Forest knows, there will be another generation of night watchers because I am going to have eggs!”
Sullivan and all the party guests burst out in more applause. Woodpecker starts the ‘tick, tick, tick-tick-tick-tick, tick’ of the drumming and the singing, flapping, humming, shouting and dancing starts up again. This Party is not over yet.

‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!’” Jesus
