MESSIAH VERIFICATION
In Luke’s gospel, John the Baptist wanted verification that Jesus was the Messiah. John sent two of his disciples to go to Jesus and ask him about it. They said to Jesus, “Are you the Messiah we’ve been expecting, or should we keep looking for someone else?”
Jesus answered the two by saying, “Go back to John and tell him what you have seen and heard—the blind see, the lame walk, those with leprosy are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised to life, and the Good News is being preached to the poor.” And he added, “God blesses those who do not fall away because of me.” (Luke 7:22-23)
If we are to verify the Messiah and be verified as followers of Jesus, it appears the obvious things we are to do to be like the Master is what he told the two disciples: “The blind see, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, the poor have good news proclaimed to them. Blessed is anyone who takes no offense at me.” Or, if we don’t do these things, are we lacking in understanding our full verification? Obedience is the proof of genuine love.
“If you love me, you will obey my commandments.” Jesus
