MAKING THINGS DIFFERENT
Much of what we do goes on the same way day after day. If there are problems or victories we often stay about the same in our attitudes by the notion of: ’that’s just the way we are.’ We seem to also know that making changes is usually way too much trouble and takes way too much effort. I think this is especially true with issues that are destructive or habitual and are then perhaps considered ‘normal.’ Again, we might use the phrase: ‘that’s just the way we are…”
To make things different we must make a different choice or different decision. We cannot correct what we will not confront. We cannot enjoy and relax in our victorious moments without confronting what made these moments so difficult in the first place.
To make things different is to really confront the idea of: ‘that’s just the way we are.’ We are only that way if we decide to be that way. We are a different way if we decide to be a different way. By the grace of God we can become new people if we want to become new people. We cannot correct what we will not confront.
“So don’t be surprised when I say, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows wherever it wants. Just as you can hear the wind but can’t tell where it comes from or where it is going, so you can’t explain how people are born of the Spirit.” Jesus
