LOOKING GOOD
If we don’t look like we are living our life in Christ in joy… we become less believable and more unattractive. This does not mean we don’t have bad days and feel really lousy, down in the mouth and even have some depression. But the issue is learning to look good internally… not just externally. Even on a bad day, if we look good on the inside… we’ll still appear kept in a satisfactory way. Joy makes everyone good looking.
Some of this principle came to me while reading the Lord’s instruction on fasting: “And when you fast, don’t make it obvious, as the hypocrites do, for they try to look miserable and disheveled so people will admire them for their fasting. I tell you the truth that is the only reward they will ever get. But when you fast, comb your hair and wash your face. Then no one will notice that you are fasting, except your Father, who knows what you do in private. And your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.” (Matthew 6:16-18)
This is not a ‘fake it till you make it’ concept. For one reason it is difficult to fake looking good. We either do or we don’t. But we can look good even though we may not be good looking. I’m headed over to other side of the Pond for some Cuban Coffee and Opal’s Peanut Butter Cookies and try to think of how to improve my looks by greater forgiveness and being less critical.
“Until now you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.” Jesus
