LIKE THE TEACHER
“A pupil is not above his teacher,” Jesus said, “but everyone, after he has been fully trained, will be like his teacher” (Luke 6:40). There is great hope in this verse. To be ‘fully trained’ is one who has carefully and prayerfully tried to understand, gather, and grip the thoughts, words and mind of the Lord Jesus Christ.
But who knows when one is fully trained? That is the secret of being a pupil…we never know for sure. But even this cannot be a cop out for neglecting strong obedience, study, prayer and the disciplines of growth with a desire to be more fully trained.
To be like the Teacher is to have learned to love.
“This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.” Jesus
