JUST WAITING ON THE LORD
Waiting can appear to be a spiritual attribute. It is common to hear the remark, “we’re just waiting on the Lord,” when really we just have an unsure issue of some kind that is laced with fear and uncertainty and the Lord gets blamed, or given responsibility for something that requires little, if any, waiting. Perhaps only a decision is in order. Waiting on the lord can have a certain degree of vanity and escape in that we have not settled the obvious: What do we want? What do we need? When do we need it? How much do we need? Are we ready to receive it? Otherwise, we are waiting for “something” which isn’t defined and thus can’t be given or received. It demands no response. There is a time for patience…but this isn’t it most of the time.
We are waiting to come to faith. Waiting is usually because we do not believe. How long is long enough in waiting? Until we are finished is the answer. How long do we pray? We wait and pray only as long as it takes—and no longer. When our will is God’s will the wait is over. After this we are just playing the waiting game.
“Not my will, however, but your will be done.” Jesus
