JOY IN THE LORD
“I am overwhelmed with joy in the Lord my God!
For he has dressed me with the clothing of salvation
and draped me in a robe of righteousness.
I am like a bridegroom dressed for his wedding
or a bride with her jewels.
The Sovereign Lord will show his justice to the nations of the world.
Everyone will praise him!
His righteousness will be like a garden in early spring,
with plants springing up everywhere.”
(Isaiah 61:10-11)
Isaiah, a prophet, uses wonderful metaphors to describe the grace and favor from the Lord. The idea of ‘clothing’ or covering is powerful. The Lord has ‘dressed us with the clothing of salvation’ and then ‘draped us in a robe of righteousness.’ That’s a mighty fine combo.
From there he takes us to the beauty and carefulness of being dressed in our finest wedding clothes and all decked out in jewels. We stylin’.
‘His righteousness will be like a spring garden with new plants springing up everywhere.’ All of these descriptions are to tell of the blessings the Father wants to heap on those he loves so much. He wants to cover us in beauty and love.
“I am overwhelmed with joy in the Lord my God!”
(Isaiah 61:10)
“For the Father himself loves you dearly because you love me and believe that I came from God.” Jesus
