INSTINCTS
The soul lives its natural life through what we might call instincts. These are the driving forces of the personality, which fits us to live an earthly existence just as a spiritual force prepares us to live a heavenly (spiritual) existence. They are instincts because they are inborn impulses that are implanted within us for the preservation and reproduction of natural life.
There are five basic instincts: (1) Self-preservation-, which warns us of danger and enables us to care for ourselves. (2) The Acquiring (getting or acquisition) instinct, which leads us to acquire the necessities of self-support. (3) The Food Seeking instinct, which is an impulse that leads us to satisfy our natural hunger. (4) The Reproductive instinct, which brings about the perpetuation of the race. (5) The Dominance instinct which leads to the exercise of self-assertion which causes us to ‘replenish, subdue and dominate’ all the living things on the earth.
The soul is our humanness, or humanity. It is our life, or what makes us a living being. We are instinctual by the design of the Father.
“And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both the soul and body in hell.” Jesus
