ILLEGAL FORMATION

Those familiar with football (American football, real football) are perhaps also aware of an infraction called Illegal Formation. It is when the players are lined improperly at the line of scrimmage. It is an illegal formation.

This seemed to remind me recently of a good many things that have illegal formations: marriages, parenting, politics, businesses, education methods and the travesty of forming our culture on Internet media sites. A lot of this is technically legal, but the results seem illegal. Much has an illegal formational result, which like football has an assessed penalty.

Our faith is for transformation, not just formation… legal or illegal.

“Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”

That’s a legal formation.
