HOW WE THINK
Bob Mumford, teacher and author recently wrote:
“Paul is not telling us what to think. He is telling us how to think. Notice what he writes to the Corinthians:
“For who has known or understood the mind (the counsels and purposes) of the Lord so as to guide and instruct Him and give Him knowledge? But we have the mind of Christ (the Messiah) and do hold the thoughts (feelings and purposes) of His heart.” (1 Corinthians 2:16)
What we think is important for knowledge and understanding. But how we think is what aligns us with the mind of Christ! Throughout Ephesians Paul is fathering us in the Holy Spirit by imparting to us a spiritual philosophy of life on this earth based on how Christ would think. Christ’s thoughts were always grounded in and motivated by his Father’s redemptive intentions and the absolute of Agape.
We learn how to think by impartation and revelation more than by study. We are seeking the one thing that makes the logos of written scripture become what Jesus identified when he said, “My words are spirit and life” (John 6:63). The Greek for ‘words’ is rhema, ‘a spoken word’ or ‘living voice.’ When Jesus spoke, he was revealing his Father’s living voice. The logos teaches; the rhema transforms.”
“People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.” Jesus
