HEADWATERS
“Headwaters are the source of a stream or river. They are located at the furthest point from where the water body empties or merges with another.” (Dictionary)
In meditation I recently kept hearing the term ‘Headwaters’ and though I basically know what they are (having seen a number of them around in the woods) a new thought kept coming to me. It was from John 7:37-39 “Anyone who is thirsty may come to me! Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, ‘Rivers of living water will flow from his heart.’” When he said “living water,” he was speaking of the Spirit, who would be given to everyone believing in him.”
When the Lord said ‘Scriptures declare’ he was perhaps quoting:
“Is anyone thirsty?
Come and drink—
even if you have no money!
Come, take your choice of wine or milk—
it’s all free! (Isaiah 55:1)
Or maybe:
The LORD will guide you continually,
giving you water when you are dry
and restoring your strength.
You will be like a well-watered garden,
like an ever-flowing spring. (Isaiah 58:11)
The text says, “when he said ‘living water’ he was speaking of the Spirit’ that would be given to all who believe in Jesus. He is the ‘water’ or the Spirit and he is the Head. He is the Headwaters from whom all power and waters flow.
“Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” Jesus
