HAVING IT ALL TOGETHER
Grace is beyond ‘a simple forgiveness and everything will be all right idea.’ When grace goes beyond realistic logic and even allows for lowering standards of behavior… ‘because we all live under grace’ … ‘none of us are perfect’ …and the “Lord forgives everybody’… we have stretched reality, truth and logic into chicken noodle soup thinking and theology. We cannot live in a lowered standard of morality and truth ‘in the name of grace.’ It is just as important not to lean toward works and false righteousness.
The trap is when we assume because we have admitted to blatant sin or addiction and feel bad about it and don’t pretend that ‘we have it all together’ and have admitted we were wrong…but are ‘just like everyone else’…’it is normal’…we are on a slippery slope on sloppy grace that will leave us and others in a tangled mess of deception and destruction. This is especially true for leaders.
In other words if we don’t pretend to have it all together… and when in fact we don’t…and we admit to that … it is O.K.
No, it isn’t.
“What sorrow awaits you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you shut the door of the Kingdom of Heaven in people’s faces. You won’t go in yourselves, and you don’t let others enter either “What sorrow awaits you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you cross land and sea to make one convert, and then you turn that person into twice the child of hell you yourselves are!” Jesus
