FINDING AND RECEIVING
The finding of the Pearl and Treasure in the field are describing the thrill and value of finding the Kingdom of God. (See Gospel of Matthew 13:44-46)
Finding and receiving are two different things. One is the search and sorting and deciding. The other is the response to what we have found. We have to decide if it is valuable enough to ‘sell out’ all other things in our lives in order to have it. I think the hidden treasure and pearl are relatively easy to find but also easy to hide. This is perhaps where most kingdom understanding lies hidden. We find it and we hide it away. The struggle begins as we sort through what we will have to get rid of in order to have the full treasure. It is most difficult and the fulfilling of faith to come to joy over our discovery to the point of the total giving up of all else to acquire this new found treasure. Your kingdom come…my kingdoms go.
“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls, who, on finding one pearl of great value, went and sold all that he had and bought it.” Jesus
