NO MORE QUESTIONS
John 16 is an announcement from Jesus to his disciples about his imminent death and resurrection. The term he used was “in a little while” this is going to happen: “A little while, and you will no longer see Me; and again a little while, and you will see me.” Some of his disciples then said to one another, “What is this thing He is telling us, ‘A little while, and you will not see me; and again a little while, and you will see me’; and, ‘because I go to the Father’?” So they were saying, “What is this that He says, ‘A little while’? We do not know what He is talking about.” (Vs.16-18)
I often ask myself, as did the disciples, “What is he talking about?” How long is ‘a little while?’ I have always had these kinds of questions.
“Jesus knew that they wished to question Him, and He said to them, “Are you deliberating together about this, that I said, ‘A little while, and you will not see me, and again a little while, and you will see me’? (16:19) And then he answered, “you too have grief now; but I will see you again, and your heart will rejoice, and no one will take your joy away from you.” (v.22)
The part of this that strikes and excites me the most is in verse 23: “In that day you will not question me about anything.” No more questions? No more questions about the church, church history, doctrine, methods, traditions, styles and methods… (once saved…always saved, pre-trib/post trib, women preachers and pastors, universal reconciliation, Pentecostals or no, sprinkling or immersion, healing, miracles, speaking in tongues, five or nine point Calvinism… blah, blah, blah) But, no more questions to ask Jesus? Probably because these are mostly religious questions… not Jesus questions.
