DIVERSITY

It seems the theme of the hour is diversity. This is a pressured agenda of inclusion and variety. It is also like this is a new idea just busting on to the cultural scene in the last twenty years or so. It is not new.

About two thousand years ago, Paul, an apostle, wrote to the church at Galatia:

“For you are all children of God through faith in Christ Jesus. And all who have been united with Christ in baptism have put on Christ, like putting on new clothes. There is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male and female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus.” (Galatians 3:26-28)

Now the diversity may not exist is our various social structures and our racially unbalanced systems, or our cultural preferences… but when we submit to Christ and his Kingdom ways there is nothing but diversity (At least that’s the theory). There is no longer black people, white people, brown people or yellow people, rich people or poor people, chosen or unchosen, this gender or that gender, male or female…”all who have been united with Christ in baptism have put on Christ” and that is the way it is. That is inclusion and variety in completeness and perfection. It is all in Jesus. Nothing else works. Governmental legislation, law or force cannot do this. Only in the Kingdom of God is this possible. This is because the Kingdom of God operates from submission…not omission.
