DINOS TWO…TOO
I am still thinking about dinosaurs following yesterday’s Journal entry.
Through the years I have read and been around a lot of talk, theories and speculation about ‘the beginning’ of ‘the world’ as we know it… about creation and the Genesis story. I remember whole seminars, books and film presentations about ‘how to prove’ the six day creation and that the earth is six thousand years old. I just never could get past ankle deep in this pool.
I know little about paleontology, ancient history, archeology, geology and such studies. When I was about seventeen years old I was traveling through Utah and visited the Dinosaur National Monument near Vernal, Utah. In this park are over 800 hundred-dinosaur remains that have been found and unearthed, or imbedded in rock in the park area.
“The rock layer enclosing the fossils is sandstone and conglomerate bed of alluvial or river bed origin known as the Morrison Formation from the Jurassic Period some 150 million years old. The dinosaurs and other ancient animals were carried by the river system, which eventually entombed their remains in Utah. The pile of sediments were later buried and lithified into solid rock. The layers of rock were later uplifted and tilted to their present angle by the mountain building forces that formed the Uinta Mountains during the Laramide orogeny (creation of mountain ranges).”

I have since been back to the Dinosaur National Monument a few times and as always my mind gets expanded and my awe and wonder are sobered. I don’t know how long we have been around on the earth… but it seems like quite a while. I have never been concerned much about this and yet some curious. My greater concern is living in the now, here in the trailer park and walking in daily faith for the time I live in.
