DEHYDRATED HEARTS
The prolific and insightful Max Lucado writes, “Deprive your soul of spiritual water, and your soul will tell you. Dehydrated hearts send desperate messages. Snarling tempers. Waves of worry. Growling mastodons of guilt and fear. You think God wants you to live with these? Hopelessness. Sleeplessness. Loneliness. Resentment. Irritability. Insecurity. These are warnings. Symptoms of a dryness deep within.”
The apostle John wrote, “For if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things. Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence toward God.” God is greater than our heart… and our dehydrated heart. The only cure for dehydration and dryness is ample refreshing water.
Jesus said to the woman at Jacob’s well, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.” This is the well that comes to our rescue with spiritual water for our souls.
“If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, “Give me a drink,” you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.” Jesus
