CRAZY CONTESTS
It is often kind of fun when someone who is a little bit crazy gets put into situations that aren’t. That is, until what’s kind of crazy is pressed to be the norm and then what’s crazy isn’t fun anymore.
Getting into Crazy Contests…. Theological, political, sociological or any other kind will always have someone crazier get into the Crazy Contest. This can happen quickly from a couple of perspectives: great sway and influence can come if as an audience or participant we have little or no opinion. And, if we have opinion and we allow crazy to out influence where we stand. Crazy is crazy until it is pushed against the norm and normal is only normal to the one who says it is. Usually my normal is correct and other normal (your normal) isn’t or might not be. It is part of sanity to have chosen what makes us sane to ourselves… if to no one else.
As we express our opinions in the Crazy Contests, we know that someone crazier will jump into the contest. We need be careful what we say and hear about crazy.
“Who knows doesn’t talk. Who talks doesn’t know,” wrote author Ursula K. Le Guin (1929-2018). I have found this principle to be exceptionally accurate.
“I tell you the solemn truth, we speak about what we know and testify about what we have seen, but you people do not accept our testimony.” Jesus
