BELIEVING IN GOD
Madeleine L’Engle (1918-2007) poet and author wrote,
“Those who believe they believe in God, but without passion in the heart, without anguish of mind, without uncertainty, without doubt, and even at times without despair, believe only in the idea of God, and not in God himself.”
I find it very common to believe ‘in the idea of God’ without the slightest idea or definition of what that means… except for comments like, ‘God is love.’ But as C.S. Lewis reminds us it is better understood that ‘Love is God.’
If we fall off this perch and start to Spirit the thing out, we soon see by faith that God is Father. This changes everything. Now we become family and not just church members. We often believe in the family before we believe in the father of the family. We often know the Holy Spirit before we know anything else. It seems to all be Ok with the Lord as long as we believe.
“There is no judgment against anyone who believes in him. But anyone who does not believe in him has already been judged for not believing in God’s one and only Son. And the judgment is based on this fact: God’s light came into the world, but people loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil.” Jesus
