BECOMING ONE
It’s early morning and time for my cup of Cuban Coffee and a cup of another kind for Roz along with her Orange-Carrot Cookies, as we sit on our limb together in the morning quiet. Couples need to find a limb they can each curl their toes around together. It’s tough when couples sit on separate limbs. After coffee… we are up and ready to start the day.
It’s the small things that start us learning how to become ‘one flesh’ as the Bible calls it. It is also a normal thing to hope for ‘one spirit,’ “But the one who joins himself to the Lord is one spirit with Him” (1 Corinthians 6:17), and ‘one mind,’ “be like-minded, having the same love, being in unity with one mind,” (Philippians 2:2). It is difficult to think of other areas of oneness without becoming ‘one body,’ “the two shall be one flesh, so then they are no longer two, but one flesh” (Matthew 19:6).
By joining ourselves to the Lord in oneness, we are joining to each other in oneness. It is best expressed by the word together. In scripture, “Together means at the same place, at the same time, or together at the same place and time. Meaning “same” or “together.” (Strong’s) Together on the same limb at the same time: together.
Counterfeits to being one: Two heads, two bodies, two houses, two agendas, two directions, two purposes, and two checkbooks…on two limbs. Too bad, but not too late. Find a limb.
“The two will become one body. So there are not two, but one.” Jesus
