BECOMING ONE
The Father and the Son are one. The Holy Spirit and the Father and Son are One. But there is given a greater mystery. Jesus said in His final and priestly prayer on earth, “For their sakes I sanctify myself, that they themselves also may be sanctified in truth. I do not ask on behalf of these alone, but for those also who believe in Me through their word; that they may all be one, even as You, Father, are in me and I in You, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe that You have sent me. The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one; I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, so that the world may know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have loved Me.” (John 17:19-23)
How I want to fully understand this great mystery: ‘even as you father are in Me and I am in You, that they also may be in Us’ (v.21). We are prayed into the very union of heaven by the earth’s representative of heaven and we are invited into full participation of the glory (v.22) the love (v.23) and the Father (v.24). This is a staggering concept of unity and oneness.
“The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one, I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me.” Jesus
