AS THE FATHER IS
The great witness of Jesus consists of many things. One of the most common ideas He conveyed is this, “I and the Father are One.” So, whatever the Father is, Jesus is that as well. This becomes a very strong idea for us and one we must grasp or at least try to grasp: Whatever is going on in heaven with the Father, and has gone on, is what Jesus wants done on earth and what he did on earth.
We can know who we are and what we are about if we take on the same confidence he had, “I know where I came from and I know where I am going.” If we fail to know this we are left to think up things to do and ways to live. The questions of “Who am I?” and “What is it all about?” are laid flat by having the confidence of, “I know who I am,” and “I know where I am going.” This is what we all want to know and be able to say.
The patterns of heaven determine what we are about on earth just like they did for Jesus. He said, “I am the light of the world” and all we can conclude, is that where the Father is in heaven, it is light. Light is a major characteristic of what and who God is. The basis of knowing and loving God is firmly attached to the idea of receiving and understanding light. “In Him was life and the life was the light of men.” To know the life is to know the Father who gives life and that very life produces light. Father life produces light. It is the nature and characteristic of heaven, and thus earth. They cannot be separated.
