ARCTOPHILE
I was recently reading an article and it mentioned that a certain gathering had a good number of arctophiles present. I thought this must have caused a great deal of alarm at the gathering because any term ending phile is probably something to stay away from. I continued reading and was convinced this was some kind of religious cult or criminal psycho of some kind.
Upon further research I found that an arctophile is someone who is a lover of teddy bears and often is also a collector of such. It comes from two Greek words: arktos = bear and phile= lover, or fond of. So,
someone who collects teddy bears is called an arctophile. I didn’t know that. I still think it might be someone for me to stay away from.
I’m headed over to other side of the Pond to have some Cuban Coffee and Molasses Cookies and try to come to grips with phile meaning lover. Like Selenophile means a lover of the moon. I need to be more selective in my reading.
“So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.” Jesus
