A SECRET OF MARRIAGE
Is there a secret to a long marriage? The secret to a long relationship is a short memory.
Nothing is as important to a functioning marriage as forgiveness and restoration. Learning to forgive is learning to forgive quickly. As we all know, or should know, not to forgive is a sure fire way of damaging our mind and soul. To say, ‘I forgive but I can’t forget’ is just buying more time to hold a grudge and refusing true forgiveness. Who would want to remember offenses anyway?
To not forgive is like acid that eats away until damage (sometime permanent) is done. Freedom comes back into a marriage when the slavery of not forgiving is swallowed up in mutual emancipation.
“For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.” Jesus
