A GREAT BURDEN
The Hellenistic Jewish philosopher Philo (20 BC-50 AD) wrote,
“Be kind, for everyone you meet is carrying a great burden.”
When I thought about this I wondered if there is also a burden to carry if you have no burden? Or don’t even know you have a burden? Or don’t even care if you have a burden? What a Scary Larry/Scary Mary thing to think about.
Paul, an apostle, wrote to the Galatians, “Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” (6:2)
Yep, back to the other side of the pond for me. Need to hoe some weeds from the garden and prop up the late tomato vines. Need to hoe some weeds out of my own life and prop up some falling areas as well.
“Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Jesus
