A BETTER SOWER
In the Parable of the Sower (Matthew 13:1-23, Mark 4:1-20, and Luke 8:4-15), is the parabolic story of the farmer who sows seed on four different types of soil: a pathway, rocky soil, thorny ground, and good soil. The seed being sown is the ‘Word of God’ (Luke 8:11). Each soil type is a purposed response as a person (soil) responds to the Word that has been sown.
Considering the four types of soil; it fell beside the road and the birds ate it, would not grow because it had no depth of soil or no root, it fell among thorns and they choked the life from the seed and it yielded no crop and the good soil grew and increased and yielded a crop producing bountifully.
The Word of God does not need to be changed, fixed or modified. But, perhaps the ‘farmer’ doing the sowing needs some changing, behavior alignment, anger management, a sowing coach, a life tutor, a personal trainer, a direct dietician, a private psychologist, a weight management specialist or a spiritual therapist, or a seed psychotherapist. Or, maybe just knowing our seeds from our needs…or, knowing soil from self…in dirt from indifference.
Or, perhaps learning to sow with greater kindness, more transparency, deeper forgiveness, stronger trust and practiced love and grace would make the soil more responsive to receiving the Seed.
“And other seed fell on good ground and sprang up and yielded a hundred times the amount sown.” When He had said these things, He cried out, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear.” Jesus
