AQUIRING WISDOM
Learning and acquiring wisdom is, of course, a life-long process. We are always finding out more stuff we didn’t know before… and some of it is wise to know.
The Book of the Proverbs of Solomon starts by telling us that The Proverbs are:
“To know wisdom and instruction,
to understand words of insight,
to receive instruction in wise dealing,
in righteousness, justice, and equity;
to give prudence to the simple,
knowledge and discretion to the youth—
Let the wise hear and increase in learning,
and the one who understands obtain guidance,
to understand a proverb and a saying,
the words of the wise and their riddles.
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge;
fools despise wisdom and instruction.”
Wisdom may come over a long period of time or instantly. Consider this for quick wisdom:
‘Two guys are running away from an angry grizzly when one stops to take off his hiking boots and switches to running shoes. “What are you doing,” the other guy yells, “those aren’t going to allow you to outrun the bear…” The other guy smiles and points out that he doesn’t have to outrun the bear, just his friend.’
“I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to little children; yes, Father, for such was your gracious will.” Jesus
