WISDOM OF THE WORLD
I am still considering some of the content from yesterday’s Journal entry about the ‘Foolishness of the Message.’ Paul, an apostle, wrote, “For to those who are perishing, the preaching of the cross is foolishness, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written:
“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the cleverness of the clever.”
Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has God not made the wisdom of this world foolish?” (1 Corinthians 1:18-20)
This is not a suggestion to ignore study, or prepare as best we can with the message we have been given. I am not advocating as some do… ‘I’ll just let God tell me as I go along…” I’ll trust some of that. I will trust it more with as much preparation as possible.
We want wisdom from God in Christ Jesus, and that means through prayer, silence and meditation learning the ways of the Kingdom:
Knowing how to hear Jesus speak to us.
Knowing how to give others a Jesus response.
Knowing how to ask a question as Jesus would.
Knowing how to treat others as Jesus would.
Knowing how to think Kingdom as Jesus does.
Knowing how to heal as Jesus healed.
Knowing how to share the foolish message that becomes a wise message when given the Jesus way.
As Paul said in 1 Corinthians 2, “My speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, so that your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.” (vs. 4-5)
“If anyone hears my words and does not believe, I do not judge him. For I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world. He who rejects me, and does not receive my words, has that which judges him. The word I have spoken will judge him on the last day.” Jesus
