FOREST BATHING
I recently read an article on Forest Bathing. This is a so-called ‘new therapy’ made popular especially by some Japanese practitioners. “Nature therapy, sometimes referred to as ecotherapy, forest therapy, forest bathing, grounding, earthing, Shinrin-Yoku or Sami Lok, is a practice that describes a broad group of techniques or treatments using nature to improve mental or physical health. Spending time in nature has various physiological benefits such as relaxation and stress reduction.” (Wikipedia)
OK, I understand the principle of being out in nature, especially out in a forest and being fully taken emotionally and spiritually by the beauty, smell and atmosphere out in the woods. I have spent the greater part of my life enjoying just such pleasures. And, it does ‘improve my mental and physical health’ to be present in this physical grace. I understand some of this kind of Forest Bathing. I truly enjoy it.
I have also done some Forest Bathing in nice little crispy creeks and rivers in the backcountry and almost frozen my tail off. The thing on my mind was to bathe quickly, find dry clothes and build a fire while telling myself I probably won’t need another bath for a good while. So, I suppose there are a couple of kinds of Forest Bathing. I enjoy them both.
“Consider how the lilies grow; they don’t work or make clothes for themselves. But I tell you that even Solomon with his riches was not dressed as beautifully as one of these flowers.” Jesus
