BLESSED ARE THE EYES
“Blessed are the eyes that see what you have seen. I tell you, many prophets and kings longed to see what you see, but they didn’t see it. And they longed to hear what you hear, but they didn’t hear it.” (Luke 10:23-24)
The context of these verses is the Lord explaining the Kingdom of God in parables. Some understand and some do not. To his disciples he is pleased to tell them that they are seeing and hearing the message of the Kingdom. And I am sure that some of the twelve understood much better than others. I am also sure that is still true of the followers of Jesus. Jesus put in a qualifier a verse earlier: “At that same time Jesus was filled with the joy of the Holy Spirit, and he said, “O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, thank you for hiding these things from those who think themselves wise and clever, and for revealing them to the childlike. Yes, Father, it pleased you to do it this way.” (Luke 10:21)
It is not those who ‘think themselves wise and clever,’ no it’s not that crowd. It is the childlike. Our eyes and ears are blessed when we learn to see and hear with the purity and innocence of a child. In my view that is learning to ‘believe it is what it is’ until we see and hear differently.
“But blessed are your eyes, because they see; and your ears, because they hear.” Jesus
