SEVEN SOCIAL SINS
This entry has been in the Journal in the past and I feel like I could run it about every nine days in our current social and cultural environment.
Frederick Lewis Donaldson (1860-1953) Anglican priest in England…created a list of ‘Seven Social Sins.’ These were sent in a letter to Mohandas Gandhi in India. In 1925 (almost a hundred years ago) Gandhi published them in his newspaper. He has since been credited with writing them. He made them famous but Donaldson wrote them originally. They seem more relevant and profound than ever.
Seven Social Sins:
Wealth without work.
Pleasure without conscience.
Knowledge without character.
Commerce without morality.
Science without humanity.
Religion without sacrifice.
Politics without principle.
We will always have a price to pay for not carefully considering and following this kind of wisdom.
“Everyone who hears my words and obeys them is like a wise man who built his house on rock. It rained hard, the floods came, and the winds blew and hit that house. But it did not fall, because it was built on rock. Everyone who hears my words and does not obey them is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. It rained hard, the floods came, and the winds blew and hit that house, and it fell with a big crash.” Jesus
