LIFE HAS COSTS

Repayment (or non-repayment) of student loans (and other loans) has been a big talking point for the last two or three years in the news but it wasn’t for the previous sixty years. Student Loans have been around a long time and people have been getting educations and re-paying those loans a long time. Life has costs.

I recently read of a person talking about not having to repay a Student Loan: “In not having to pay your debt, you almost experience a little bit of lifestyle creep.” I think this person was expressing the fact: I made the debt-I should pay off the debt. Life has costs.

It reminded me of King David when instructed by Gad (one of his personal prophets) to buy land and built an altar to the Lord to stop a plague on the people. He went to a man named Araumah and he asked the King why he had come to see him. David replied, “I have come to buy your threshing floor and to build an altar to the Lord there, so that he will stop the plague.”

“Take it, my lord the king, and use it as you wish,” Araunah said to David. “Here are oxen for the burnt offering, and you can use the threshing boards and ox yokes for wood to build a fire on the altar. I will give it all to you, Your Majesty, and may the Lord your God accept your sacrifice.”

But the king replied to Araunah, “No, I insist on buying it, for I will not present burnt offerings to the Lord my God that have cost me nothing.” (2 Samuel 24:18-25)

This is how we get rid of the lifestyle creep of not repaying what we owe… we repay it. It costs us. Life has costs.
