HALLOWEEN THOUGHTS
The modern celebration of Halloween is bigger than it has ever been. There is something about death, demons, witches, witchcraft, blood, skeletons, grotesque art and objects, things that frighten, loud and eerie sounds, masks, clothing and make-up to emulate the devil, haunted houses, intentional practices of fear and meanness that seems to be well suited, popular and celebrated by this age.
However, we also might consider these thoughts:
“Take no part in the worthless deeds of evil and darkness; instead, expose them.” (Ephesians 5:11)
“You cannot drink from the cup of the Lord and from the cup of demons, too. You cannot eat at the Lord’s Table and at the table of demons, too.”
(1 Corinthians 10:21)
“Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.” (1 Peter 5:8)
“But test everything that is said. Hold on to what is good. Stay away from every kind of evil.”
(1 Thessalonians 5:21-22)
“What sorrow for those who say that evil is good and good is evil, that dark is light and light is dark, that bitter is sweet and sweet is bitter.” (Isaiah 5:20)
“The night has advanced toward dawn; the day is near. So then we must lay aside the works of darkness, and put on the weapons of light.” (Romans 13:12)
“So submit to God. But resist the devil and he will flee from you.” (James 4:7)
“And the judgment is based on this fact: God’s light came into the world, but people loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil.” (John 3: 19)
“So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do.” (Ephesians 5:15-17)
“And don’t let us yield to temptation, but rescue us from the evil one.” Jesus
