THE LAMP
Psalm 119 is a long and distinguished text describing the beauty and holiness of the Lord and the power and strength of his Word. The structure of Psalm 119 is comprised of 22 stanzas, each starting with a different letter in the Hebrew alphabet. Each stanza has 8 verses with two lines each. There are 176 verses and it is the longest chapter in the Bible.
The Psalm starts with: “Blessed are those whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the Lord.
Blessed are those who keep His testimonies, and who seek Him with all their heart.” (Psalm 119:1-2)
There are so many wonderful thoughts that come out while slowly reading this great Psalm:
“How can a young person maintain a pure life?
By guarding it according to your instructions.” (119:9)
“Open my eyes so I can truly see the marvelous things in your law.” (119:18)
“I will run in the way of your commandments, when you set my heart free.” (119:32)
And perhaps the most well known:
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” (119:105
There are two ways to receive the Word of the Lord: one is scripture like those above from Psalm 119 and the other is to hear his voice when he speaks to us.
Both are lamps to light our path as we walk out this part of the journey. I personally think they will both be involved in the next part as well. A third way: nature.
“If you remain in my word, then you are truly my disciples.” Jesus
