SUSHI
My first experience with Sushi was as a kid and our family was in Oregon when the salmon were running in the Columbia River. We could see bears catching the salmon in the river and rolling them up like jelly rolls and eating them by the dozens. I just did not know at the time that this was called Sushi.
Much later I learned that not only bears but people also roll up raw dead fish and eat it. No, really… they do. I read about it and actually knew some people who intentionally participated in this activity. This is why this is so surprising: “Sushi is made of small pieces of raw fish that are wrapped in rice and seaweed. The seaweed, called nori, (red algae, no fooling, it is) is collected with submerged bamboo nets.” OK, I am not trying to creep you out but: “Raw fish by itself is sashimi. Sushi is essentially anything combined with vinegar-seasoned rice (raw dead fish being just one). But many seafood sushi toppings are seared, partially cooked, or fully cooked. Eel, shrimp, octopus, clams, and crab are all fully cooked at least a significant portion of the time.” You are you kidding me! Right? Hey, whatever…
I sense a heavy nausea setting in on my mind and body. This may be one of the most disgusting entries ever made in this Journal. It’s off to my side of the pond to have Carne Asada Tacos with Adriana’s Picante’ Sauce, refried Beans, Pico de Gallo and Cuban Coffee.
“You give them something to eat.” Jesus
