THE FLOWER SHOW
Last Fall Roz took some of our flowers and put them into attractive vases very nicely displayed and decorated pots and took them to a local Flower Show. This was a judged event with categories of various species and varieties. She took some of our Hibiscus (both red and yellow) and Gerbera Daisies and some of Hazel’s Lincoln’s Red Roses. What a display! They were so beautiful.
One of the Committee Judges in a rather snooty way said, “Hibisceae on the biscus as a Tribe in Flower World. Then the Gerbera daisy as Mutisieae also a Tribe and then Rosa ‘Mister Lincoln’, also known as ‘Mr. Lincoln’, is a dark red Hybrid tea rose cultivar… it appears these flowers have all been given performance enhancing drugs to get this large and full.”
Roz said, “What are you talking about? I only used stuff I got at my local nursery to help with my plants and enrich the soil.” The Flower Committee said, “Look lady, we don’t care where you got your drugs… these flowers are illegal and could even be a cause of investigation and perhaps arrest.” Roz said, “No, wait, this is just a product that comes in a bag as a soil supplement and enhancement to growth… what the…?” They said, “Lady, that’s what they all say when they get busted.”
Like football, baseball, cycling, tennis, track and field…and now gardening… doping is in use and considered unethical and prohibited. The Committee Judge told Roz, “It looks like steroids to us.” Without any understanding of these bogus charges and having about all of this she needed… she told them what they could do with their Blooming Idiot Flower Show and where they could put it and came home with our beautiful plants.
(Note: It is best not to ruffle her feathers or her flowers.)
(Another note: This story did not happen…but could have.)
“Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you.” Jesus
