BABIES AND BATHWATER
“We can’t throw the baby out with the bathwater…” This saying came to me in night recently and I thought that it was really a strange colloquialism but I remember hearing it most of my life. It means to get rid of something good, or valuable while getting rid of something bad, or useless.
Then again… it depends on what babies we are talking about tossing out. Not babies babies, of course. But perhaps out with the bathwater should go our uneven emotional babies, lack of faith babies, financial worry babies, irresponsibility babies, lazy babies, stubborn babies, irrational babies, unrealistic babies, unbelieving babies, angry babies, bitter babies, our chintzy giving babies, or our critical and negative babies and so forth… maybe it is OK to throw these babies out with the bathwater.
“Someone who has bathed only needs to have his feet washed, but is completely clean. You are clean, but not all of you.” Jesus
