BREAD FROM HELL
In a dream Roz and I and “another couple” (can’t recall the other couple) were in the downtown artsy-fartsy district of San Francisco. We were wandering around looking at the shops, the art, the people, etc. and came upon an extremely busy bakery… with a line of people out the door waiting to get in to buy bread and other bakery items.
The aroma of fresh baked bread was in the air and very tantalizing. As we got closer I could see the sign on the bakery and it read “Bread from Hell.” The sign was black with orange lettering with orange-yellow-red flames coming from the lettering. As we looked at those who had purchased bakery items… the items were in black sacks with the same logo on the sacks as was on the sign. All the employees (and there were about 15-20) were very busy scurrying around to serve the customers and they all had on black t-shirts with the same “Bread from Hell” logo on the front and back of the shirts.
The employees were mostly young (20-28) years old and were even more stereotypical of inner city and artsy than the usual coffee house looking employees… tattoos, piercings, dyed and colored hair, little tight hats, no make-up (or over make-up) and light hard rock music playing in the background. For the most part they were all pleasant and professional to the customers… though a little sober and distant in emotional contact.
Those who bought the bread were eating it vigorously right from the bag and breaking off pieces and handing it to others as they all stood around on the sidewalk out front laughing and eating and handing pieces to passersby’s and were soon back in line to buy more. The constant comment was, “This Bread from Hell is wonderful!”
As I stood and watched this I was amazed at the cleverness and obvious opposite play on the theme of “Bread from Heaven.” The couple with Roz and I were also discussing the eagerness and desire of so many wanting Bread from Hell. Then it occurred to me to open a bakery to physically promote the spiritual theme of Bread from Heaven.
As we discussed this among ourselves… we were simply asking one another, “Do you think people would want the Bread from Heaven the way these people want the Bread from Hell? Even if it was in white bags, with a fresh and wholesome logo and tasted wonderful? Eating Bread from Heaven we will “never hunger again” and the Bread from Hell must be consumed constantly… and one can never get enough to satisfy. The Bread from Heaven satisfies a deep and abiding hunger that only the Spirit of the Lord and the Presence of Jesus can satisfy.
It seems like the Bread from Hell is very popular right now and is still in full production.

“I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is my flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world.” Jesus
