FREE AS A BIRD
“Canary had been a prisoner in a small cage since she was young and was not treated well. Her owners would go by her cage and poke fingers, sticks and papers through the bars and tease and scare her. Sometimes they would leave for days without feeding and watering her. She finally escaped and ended up at The Safe Tree.
‘So, you were a prisoner, were you Canary?’ asks Eagle. Canary said she was and put her head down in shame. ‘Look up here at me please Canary,’ Eagle said softly, ‘I want to tell you something. Not everyone who lives in a cage is a prisoner and not everyone who is out flying about is free. The idea of ‘free as a bird’ does not mean much if you are a prisoner inside of yourself. Cages are real, but if you can get this picture; there are birds flying around this Forest inside of cages and don’t even know it because they are not free inside themselves. Now that you are out of a real cage you need to set yourself free from the cage inside yourself. You know, in your heart.”
