BORN AGAIN
Peter Cartwright (1785-1872) was a famous Methodist circuit rider (a minister who rode horseback in the frontier backwoods areas to minister to settlers and organize congregations). He rode thousands of miles and is said to have baptized 12,000 people during his ministry.
Someone asked Peter Cartwright, “Why do you preach so much on you must be born again?” He said, “The reason why I preach so much ‘you must be born again’, is because you must be born again.”
His preaching, and that of many others like him, brought great revival to this country including the Great Cane Ridge Revival and what is called the Second Great Awakening. Lord, let it happen again.
And, by the way, we “all must be born again” or more literally, “born from above.” This is where it all starts.
“Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.” Jesus
