BEING THE WORD
There is a new way of absorbing spirituality. The old and historical way of didactic interchange has given way to absorption of knowledge through all the senses. The Lecture and Listener no longer seem valid culturally. The digital age of concepts through various media must be used to touch a generation and the touching must be short, direct and relevant.
If people no longer are ‘grounded in the faith’ by repetitious study of scripture and various disciplines of reading and study, then when doing the works of Jesus it will be contaminated with sheer humanism, moralism and New Age goodness. I believe this will require a couple of things. The answer seems to be in forming a life of contemplation. From the place of contemplation where we may center ourselves on Jesus and hear His voice and pray in silence and solitude, will come a life prepared to be the Word to others. This is probably the best it can be for bringing the gospel of the kingdom in power and reality. The only thing greater would be to have a life of study and contemplation. But, if this generation cannot do this, then by all means it should be contemplation and then acts of compassion.
