HUH?
Many times I can very clearly hear the voice of the Lord speaking to me as I meditate, but the problem is, I don’t always want to hear what He is saying. So when this occurs I have the tendency to ‘dumb down’ and act like I did not hear well and therefore I don’t need to respond. This obviously happens when what I hear is not what I want to hear or it is a difficult issue.
This happened with the original handpicked disciples and so we should not be too surprised when it happens with us. “For He was teaching His disciples and telling them, the Son of Man is to be delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill Him, and when He has been killed, He will rise three days later.” You say what? Now, right when we are rolling along and doing stuff and learning things, we do not want to hear that the ‘project,’ or our ‘cause,’ or (O, help us Jesus!) our ‘ministry,’ is going to not only be interrupted, but killed.
There is always a perfect way to deal with this. We just have to say as they did, “I don’t understand what He just said and I am afraid to ask.” (Mark 9:32). There we have it! If I don’t know I am not responsible. So we do not ask again because we really already know the answer. The last defense to something we don’t want to hear is to act as though we did not hear. Huh?
“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.” Jesus
