THE GREATEST TRUTH
Watchman Nee (1903-1972) wrote, “The cross reduces the outward man to death. It splits open the human shell. The cross must break all that belongs to our outward man – our opinions, our ways, our cleverness, our self-love, and our all. Clearly, this is the Lord’s way. As soon as our outward man is broken, our spirit can easily come forth.”
Nee’s message is not any more popular today than when he wrote it. The radical destruction of the outward person to develop the inward is the Gospel of Jesus.
Watchman Nee was a Chinese Christian used greatly in teaching, writing and development of the church in China in the thirty’s and forty’s. When China became hard-core Communist in 1949 many Christians including Nee were persecuted and imprisoned. Nee went to prison in 1952 and spent 20 years in hard labor and persecution. He died in prison in 1972 and this note was found in his cell and given to a relative after he was cremated.
“Christ is the Son of God who died for the redemption of sinners and resurrected after three days. This is the greatest truth in the universe. I die because of my belief in Christ. Watchman Nee.”
“And you will be hated by all for my name’s sake. But the one who endures to the end will be saved. When they persecute you in one town, flee to the next.” Jesus
